Taiwan's defense authorities said one of its fighter jets went missing during a drill off the island's northeast coast on Tuesday.
The single-seater Mirage-2000 fighter jet fell off radar at 6:43pm while it was conducting a regular nighttime training exercise. Authorities dispatched 17 military planes, as well as 10 naval and coastguard vessels to conduct a search, but so far there have been no sightings of the missing plane. Air force deputy chief, Chang Cheping, said an investigation into the cause of the incident was still underway. Taiwan has grounded all its Mirage jets pending the ongoing investigation.
