UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres credited the Belt and Road Initiative on Sunday as a “win-win situation” with many beneficiaries as the Belt and R‍oad Forum kicked off in Beijing.
In an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the Forum, Guterres told CGTN’s Tian Wei: "It's obviously to promote Chinese investment, Chinese trade, Chinese wealth." But he added, "you try to make others rich, (but you) also become richer doing that. That's easily a win-win situation."

Guterres, who took over the helm of the UN in January, said he was up to the challenge of making the UN relevant in a dramatically changing world through reform and promised to work to win the trust of member states.

He also emphasized the role the media plays in promoting understanding of China and the world. In a message to CGTN, he wrote: "I pay tribute to all women and men working in CGTN and helping all of us to understand the new China that has today the responsibilities of a leading country in today's world."
