Chinese scientists recently found fossils of climbing perch also called walking fish in the Nyima Basin, of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

The now dry and desolate Nyima Basin was once part of a big lake more than 20 million years ago, the scientists say.

A climbing perch is a tiny fish found in ponds throughout Asia. It is generally brown or gray in color and is known for its ability to breathe atmospheric oxygen and walk out of water.

"Today, we mainly found fossils of fish. Up till now, we have found more than 100 fossils of fish," said Wu Feixiang, leader of the scientific expedition of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

Wu also said, "This is the best fossil of a climbing perch we found today. It is clear and vivid. The species might have lived in a very warm and wet environment."
