At least nine inmates have been killed and 14 others hurt in a prison riot in the central Brazilian state of Goias. Authorities said the violence erupted when a group of armed inmates from one cellblock invaded a wing controlled by a rival gang. Officials regained control with the support of military police about two hours after the riot started. According to local media, 106 prisoners escaped during the chaos. Twenty-nine have since been recaptured.
