Jordan hopes to be bridge between East and West for Belt and Road Initiative

Jordan is a pivotal country in the framework of China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative. In 2015, China and Jordan established a strategic partnership, covering a wide scope of economic cooperation. But although the two countries have made substantial progress in their bilateral economic relationship, more cooperation is on the cards.
Jordan believes the Belt and Road Initiative will boost cooperation in the region and beyond, including that of Western nations. Jordan's Industry, Trade and Supply Minister Yarub F. Qudah has spoken highly of the initiative put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping. He said Jordan has been serving as a bridge between China and Western countries since the ancient Silk Road was first traversed. Qudah believes the strategy will further bind Jordan and China together, taking into account the Belt and Road's historic and pragmatic significance in connecting China with the West.
China is Jordan's second largest trading partner, as well as its biggest source of imports, and the relationship looks to strengthen further. The two countries are advancing in cooperation in infrastructure, energy and telecommunications.
The Chief of Jordan's Investment Commission Thabet Elwir, who has visited China alongside his country's monarch King Abdullah II, has great expectations on strengthening trade cooperation with China under the Belt and Road framework. He said that he's paying close attention to the upcoming Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, which is scheduled to take place on May 14 and 15.
