The billionaire philanthropist David Rockefeller has died at the age of 101. A family spokesman said Mr Rockefeller had died of congestive heart failure at his home in Pocantico Hills, New York.

As the patriarch of the Rockefeller family, David Rockefeller had an estimated fortune of 3 billion US dollars, and was widely known as the richest American in history. He retired as head of Chase Manhattan bank in 1981 after a 35-year career.
