Over in Brazil, one of the six survivors from the Chapecoense plane crash last year has begun light training. Goalkeeper Jakson Follman, now fitted with a prosthetic leg, is hoping to compete at the Paralympic level of football following a long recovery. On November 29th 2016 the team were travelling to Columbia to play in the Copa Sudamericana final when the aircraft ran out of fuel and crashed into the mountains in Medellin, killing 71 people.
The only playing staff to survive, including shot stopper Follman, was centre halve Neto and left back Alan Ruschel both of which have made a return to the pitch, albeit not competitively. Following the incident, help was offered from around the world to rebuild the Brazilian side with the Argentina FA offering free loans players. COMNEBOL symbolically awarded them the Copa Sudamericana title and the 2 million US dollar prize money while Barcelona came over to play a friendly match where the proceeds went to support to victim's families.
