US warplanes have launched a sustained assault in Yemen on the extremist group known as al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula -- one of the heaviest US attacks on the country in years.
It comes as the Pentagon says American blood was on the organization's hands. The operation is believed to be a sign of a new aggressive campaign by US President Donald Trump against the terrorist group in Yemen.
US aircraft have been carrying out a series of airstrikes over the past two days. The Pentagon said there were more than 20 raids on Thursday, during which drones and apache helicopters targeting al-Qaeda militants and weapons in three provinces in Yemen were used.
