Heavy snowfall has hit large areas of central Japan, leaving at least four people dead and disrupting transportation networks. More than 50 centimeters of snow had accumulated in some major cities.
Since Saturday, Shinkansen bullet train services operating between Niigata and Tokyo were suspended. Some domestic flights were also cancelled. Japan's Meteorological Agency said the continuous heavy snow in central areas could last until Sunday morning.
