China is banking on the Asian Development Bank to help the Belt and Road Initiative and boost development in Asia, Chinese Finance Minister Xiao Jie told an annual meeting of the ADB on Saturday in the Japanese city of Yokohama.
"China hopes the ADB... strengthens the strategic ties between its programs and the Belt and Road Initiative to maximize synergy effects and promote Asia's further development," Reuters news agency quoted Xiao as saying.
Xiao also met with his Japanese counterpart Taro Aso on the sidelines of the ADB gathering in what was the first bilateral financial dialogue between China and Japan in two years.
The two ministers agreed to bolster economic and financial cooperation through dialogue during their talks.
A joint statement released after their meeting said that the two ministers also decided to hold the next bilateral economic dialogue in 2018 in China.
