In Brussels the trial of the sole surviving suspect of the November 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris that killed 130 people, begins on Monday. Saleh Abdelslam, the Belgian born French national faces charges over a shootout that led to his capture in the Belgian capital. Mariam Zaidi has more.
MARIAM ZAIDI BRUSSELS "On Monday morning at the Palais De Justice – the Brussels court you can see just behind me, Salah Adelslam –will be transferred back to Belgium from France to stand trial. Abdelslam fled the scene of the November 2015 Paris attacks crossing the border to Belgium. While his alleged participation in the 2015 Paris attacks is subject to a separate trial in France, he is wanted in Belgium to face terror charges relating to a shootout in the Brussels neighbourhood of Forest - where several police officers were injured. That shootout in March led to his eventual capture days later, ending a four month manhunt for Europe's most wanted man. Not only is Abdeslam accused of playing a central role in the Paris attacks, he has also been linked to the same terror cell that carried out the attacks in Brussels on March 22nd – days after his capture. But a last minute motion by an organisation representing victims of the Brussels attacks to join the criminal action against Abdelslam was thrown out by a judge. The trial is expected to last till Friday. Mariam Zaidi, CGTN Brussels."
