Emmanuel Macron's visit aims to build trade relations between France and China - but what do ordinary French people think of China? Our correspondent Elena Casas has been finding out.
ELENA CASAS PARIS "One of President Macron's key aims for his trip to China is to deepen the trade relationship between the two - he's keen to reduce the current 30 billion euro trade deficit that France has with China - so more than 100 CEOs of French firms are travelling with him. For them, it's clear that China represents a big opportunity. But what do ordinary French people think of China? We went to ask them."
"I think it's the future, well it's the future already, and I think in France we haven't really understood that, so I hope that President Macron is inspired by what he sees there, because here we're going backwards rather than forwards."
"It's an immense and ancient people, and a huge country, with an ancestral culture that's very different to ours. Really what I know about China comes from Chinese people who live here, there's a big Chinese population, but we don't always have much contact with them."
"My image of China really changed once I went there, it's so modern, I was really impressed. I also saw they are very proud of being Chinese, that was really noticeable."
ELENA CASAS PARIS "On the other hand, Emmanuel Macron can expect a pretty warm welcome in China, where France has a largely positive image. Sales of traditional French exports like high fashion and wine are soaring, while two and a half million tourists came here to Paris last year. Elena Casas, CGTN, Paris"
