Two weeks after clashes erupted in the Kokang region of Myanmar’s Shan State, gunshots and explosions can still be heard in the Chinese border town of Nansan.
The fighting between Myanmar government forces and militant groups has emptied the region’s capital Laukkai. A video filmed around 2.00 p.m. on Monday by locals showed most businesses in the capital had closed, and few people or vehicles were on the streets.
The ban also restricts more than four people to march, shout or take part in public riots on roads and streets used for public transportation with the intention of provoking violence.‍

China's Foreign Ministry said last week that the fighting in Kokang had severely impacted the security of border areas in China.
Beijing has also offered assistance: the Foreign Ministry's Special Envoy for Asian Affairs has engaged with relevant parties in Myanmar and China has also offered aid to Myanmar residents who crossed over to the Chinese side.
