Iran Nuclear Deal: US stands opposite EU, IAEA on Iran's compliance
[]
Donald Trump swears to settle a new nuclear deal that would, in his words, "never expire". His EU allies are resisting Washington's efforts to have fresh negotiations on a tougher deal. CGTN's Ma Ke has the story.
It's not the first time President Trump has publicly slammed the deal.
DONALD TRUMP US PRESIDENT "The Iran deal was one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into."
Trump has wanted to overhaul the agreement since taking office. According to a senior US official, Trump wants to use his 120-day waiver on sanctions for talks with European allies on revisions to the accord. The failure to reach a deal in that time will mean the re-imposition of sanctions on Iran.  Trump also says he wants Iran excluded from new talks.
120-day waiver on sanctions · New financial sanctions · Amendments to deal with EU partners
DONALD TRUMP US PRESIDENT "Iran is not living up to the spirit of the deal."
Across the Atlantic, EU leaders disagree.
FEDERICA MOGHERINIEU FOREIGN POLICY CHIEF "It's delivering on its main goal which is keeping the Iranian nuclear program in check."
BORIS JOHNSON BRITISH FOREIGN SECRETARY "I think it is incumbent on those who oppose the JCPOA to come up with that better solution because we haven't seen it so far."
The head of the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency, Yukiya Amano, has also said Iran has not broken any promises and is playing by the rules of the accord. The US has faced criticism on many levels. But President Trump is unfazed, setting a 60-day deadline for his EU allies to renew their measures on Iran. Ma Ke, CGTN.
