China is well known for its mythical tales and fables, but when it comes to fantasy there's nothing so globally famous as the "Lord of the Rings" film series.

But Chinese director Wuershan is looking to change that. Collaborating with a team from Hollywood, the aspiring director has unveiled his latest project – a trilogy based on "Fengshen yanyi", also known as "The Investitures of the God".

The production team is now casting the four lead characters, with filming set to start in 2018.

The first part of the trilogy is scheduled to be released in 2020.
