More than two millennia ago, the diligent and courageous people of Eurasia explored and opened up the Silk Road that linked the major civilizations of Asia, Europe and Africa. In the 21st century, the Belt and Road Initiative came into being, in a bid to enhance regional modern connectivity and cooperation while promoting trade and cultural exchanges. From the Silk Road period to the Belt and Road era, methods of communication and transportation have dramatically changed. In ancient times, our ancestors traveled on foot, on camels and by ship, to areas far from home. Nowadays, highways, railways and air routes connect cities and regions to bring convenience for trade as well as people-to-people and cultural interactions.
