A court in Cote d'Ivoire has acquitted the country’s former first lady, Simone Gbagbo, of crimes against humanity allegedly committed during the 2011 post-election violence.
Gbagbo was accused of leading a cell that carried out violent reprisals against opponents of her husband, ex-president Laurent Gbagbo, including supplying it with weapons and attack helicopters.

More than 3,000 people died in the violence after the 2010 presidential poll.
Human Rights Watch and victims’ rights groups in Cote d'Ivoire expressed their disappointment with the verdict, which they said leaves a lot of questions about her role in the violence unanswered, VOA reports.
Gbagbo is still serving a 20-year prison term on previous charges of endangering the state.
Her husband, Laurent Gbagbo is on trial in the Hague for crimes against humanity.
