Free trade will continue, despite forces pushing against it, UN Under-Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs Wu Hongbo told CGTN on the sidelines of the Boao Forum for Asia in China’s southern Hainan province.
With 60 percent of the world's population, Asia will have a key role to play, he said. "It is a very, very important geographical region,” Wu added, calling it "a powerhouse for economic growth."
Investment in the region, including through programs like China’s Belt and Road Initiative will also boost regional connectivity, create jobs and help economic growth and improve living standards, he noted.
