Iran's UN ambassador Gholamali Khoshroo says the Security Council's emergency meeting on protests in his country is an "abuse of power" by the United States.

The emergency meeting was called by the United States, and US President Donald Trump has tweeted his support for anti-government protests in Iran. Russia criticized Washington for interfering in Iran's domestic affairs by calling the meeting. The Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said the meeting was an abuse of the Security Council platform. At least 21 people have been killed during riots that followed protests over Iran's economic woes. Iran has accused the US of stirring up unrest.
