Lien Chan, the former chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT), will visit the Chinese mainland in a few days, according to the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.
The Chinese mainland's Taiwan Affairs chief, Zhang Zhijun, will meet with Lien during his stay, said Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council on Wednesday.

Ma added that Lien will go to northwest China’s Shaanxi Province to pay tribute to his ancestors, and will also go to north China’s Shanxi Province to attend the annual memorial ceremony for the Yan Emperor, a legendary ancient Chinese ruler in pre-dynastic times. In addition, Lien is also set to visit northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and east China's Zhejiang Province.
Lien was chairman of the Kuomintang from 2000 to 2005.
