We begin in Jerusalem, where US Vice President Mike Pence has been welcomed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The third leg of his Middle East tour is the highest level US visit to the region, ever since Washington decided to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital in December. Outraged by the US decision, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has refused to meet Pence, and no longer considers the US a peace broker. Abbas will meet European diplomats in Brussels on Monday, to seek EU recognition of Palestine as a state.
