China on Saturday urged the US to make objective and fair decisions to avoid damaging economic and commercial exchanges between the two countries, after the US decided to impose anti-dumping duties on Chinese plate and stainless steel products.
China's Ministry of Commerce issued a statement on its website, saying the US side had not fully considered the evidence provided by Chinese companies, and its decision did not correctly reflect reality.
‍The US International Trade Commission confirmed on Friday it would impose anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders on imports of stainless steel sheet and strip, as well as carbon and alloy steel cut-to-length plate from China.

The decision allows the US Department of Commerce to introduce anti-dumping duties between 63.86 and 76.64 percent and anti-subsidy duties between 75.6 and 190.71 percent on Chinese stainless steel sheet and strip, along with 68.27 percent anti-dumping duties and 251-percent countervailing duties on carbon and alloy steel cut-to-length plate from China.
Wang Hejun, head of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce's trade remedy and investigations bureau, said in Saturday's statement that the challenges facing the US steel industry included old equipment and low production rate, which subsequently affected the profits, and this had no correlation with stainless steel imports from China.
“In fact, China’s exports to the US have met increasing market demand for stainless steel products in the US. The stainless steel trades between China and US are complementary. China not only exports stainless steel products to the US, but also imports them from there." Wang added.
