A near 900-year-old Song dynasty porcelain brush-washer has smashed the world auction record for Chinese ceramics. The ceramic was finally sold to an anonymous buyer for about 37 million US dollars after a 20-minute bidding battle at Sotheby's in Hong Kong.
The 13-centimeter brush washer is a pre-eminent example of Ru GuanYao from Northern Song dynasty kilns, known for its intense blue-green glaze and "ice-crackle" pattern.
