Extreme weather and storms have left three people dead across Europe, while hundreds of flights have been canceled at major airports. A train derailed in Switzerland after heavy winds hit the area. Jack Parrock brings us the latest.
JACK PARROCK BRUSSELS "Most of north western Europe has been battered by strong winds and heavy rains causing 3 deaths and multiple injuries and as well as disruptions to travelers and power. One person was killed in the French alps after being hit by a falling tree and two people died after being swept out to sea by a huge wave in the Basque country in northern Spain. Tens of thousands of people have been left without power across the continent including in the UK where the storm being called Eleanor has also forced many roads to be closed. In Switzerland, high winds snapped the Christmas tree in the capital Bern - the highest wind in the country was recorded as 195 kilometers per hour. Here in Belgium there was an orange alert for high winds and nearby at Amsterdam Schipol airport, a major European flight hub, they're still dealing with the backlog of delayed flights. All five of the Netherlands's major sea barrier were all shut at one point for the first time ever. The storm's been sweeping east over Germany and Austria causing similar disruption.
