The European Union has reassured Palestinians of their support in the matter, as the bloc's top diplomat welcomed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to Brussels on Monday. Abbas thanked the EU for its financial support, but also urged European leaders to take a more active political role in the region, and recognise the State of Palestine.
