May 20 marks Tsai Ing-wen's first year as leader of Taiwan, but recent polls show that her approval rating has fallen dramatically.
Tsai promised to implement measures to boost economic growth, but polls show over 80 percent of people are dissatisfied with the performance of Taiwan's economy under her leadership.
In late April, Tsai suggested in an interview with Reuters that a second phone call with US President Donald Trump might be possible and that Taiwan was likely to buy an F-35 stealth jet from the US. But both suggestions were dismissed by Trump a day later.
A news website in Taiwan shows that over 43 percent of public have little trust in Tsai and that 57 percent are not happy with her as leader.
