Chinese President Xi Jinping called for more cooperation between China and the US state of Alaska during his meeting with the state’s Governor Bill Walker on Friday night local time in Anchorage following his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Florida.
President Xi said the purpose of his visit to the US was to expand bilateral cooperation in a wide range of areas and his meeting with Trump was successful in that respect.
Xi said local cooperation is one of the most dynamic parts in China-US relations as China and individual states are complementary in many industries. Specifically, China and Alaska should form more partnerships in mineral resources, oil and gas resources and fishery. He also called for more cooperation in tourism and more exchanges in winter sports.
Walker told Xi that China is Alaska’s most important trade partner and that the state is willing to deepen this cooperation.
He tweeted before the meeting that he was "honored to host President Xi and [his wife] Madame Peng during their visit to Alaska and eager to tell them about AK's resource development opportunities."
