Sports Scene move to hoops now, and in Philadelphia the motto has been trust the process for several years. That process is tank, basically lose as many games as possible, to increase your chances in the NBA draft. Well, the process seems to be taking shape -- because a pair of draftees are starting to turn heads as Joel Embiid, who has dealt with injuries the last three years, and Ben Simmons, have started to make the Sixers competitive. The two would take centre stage against the Detroit Pistons in a match-up of a pair of teams fighting for playoff spots in the Eastern conference.
Philly had won three straight going in, and a win would see them move back to 5-hundred.
Ben Simmons helps the hosts get in front early, with the turnaround. The Sixers race out to a 15-2 lead.
Then Joel Embiid gets into the act, hacked as he gets this hoop to fall. Philly still in front by 14 points.
Then it is Simmons again, quick enough to get to this loose ball, and fast enough to beat everyone down court for the flush. The hosts have twice as many points as Detroit!
Back to Embiid, as the big man gets a little lucky as the ball bounces to him and he gets the lay-up. He and Simmons combined for 26 in the first half. Detroit had 32 as a team.
Second half and the onslaught continues, as the Process hits the three-ball. The lead is 33.
Not many highlights for the Pistons, but here is one as Luke Kennard hits the buzzer beating three at the end of the third.
But Philly wins it in a laugher -- 114-78, and have rattled off four straight wins and move back to the 500-level.
As for other action, Boston runs their win streak to five after beating Minnesota. Miami needed overtime to get past New York. Jonas Valanciunas had all of his 20 points in the third quarter as Toronto blasts Milwaukee. Kriss Dunn had a career-high 32 in Chicago's win. San Antonio and Washington were also winners.
