For tennis we go to Australia and the Apia International Sydney where two former world number ones were squaring off for a place in the semi-finals. Two-time grand slam champion Angelique Kerber looked great in the Hopman Cup last week in helping Germany reach the final, while seven-time grand slam winner Venus Williams was looking to get some matches in ahead of the Australian Open that begins on Monday.
This is Venus serving and facing set point in the first after going down 5-3 to Kerber. But the American would fight back with winners like that and later take the frame 7-5.
Kerber would not make the same mistake of allowing Williams to mount another comeback as the German takes this point with an excellent lob and later the set 6-3.
The deciding set would be all Kerber who is up 3-0 here and moving the 37 year old American around the court. But Venus turns up the power and starts raining down backhands and then comes to the net, only for Kerber to deliver another pinpoint lob to win the rally.
On match point, Venus returns wide and Kerber takes the set 6-1 to complete the comeback victory. She will face Dominika Cibulkova in the quarter-finals.
This is Agnieszka Radwanska serving to Johanna Konta in a rematch of last year's final that was won by Konta. Radwanska brings the Brit into the net and then scampers up to deliver a fantastic sharp angled winner to claim the first set 6-3.
The unseeded Pole is now leading 3-1 in the second as she shows off her excellent court coverage before firing a volley out of Konta's reach to break her again.
Radwanska went up 4-1 in the second before Konta fought back to make it close, but Radwanska now has match point. The Brit pops up a defensive lob and Radwanska ends it with an emphatic smash. 7-5 in the second and she's into the second round.
