Philippines Volcano: Authorities prepare for prolonged emergency
[]
The Philippines is bracing for a possible three-month-long emergency in areas around an erupting volcano. It has already displaced more than 81-thousand people and caused overcrowding at temporary shelters.
Mount Mayon remains at alert level four, a notch below the highest. The volcano has been erupting continuously for about two weeks. Heavy rain started hitting Albay province where Mount Mayon is located, and experts warned it might trigger volcanic mudflows. Residents living near rivers are encouraged to move to higher ground to avoid further damage.
