A number of key components of the US THAAD missile defense system have arrived at the deployment site in Seongju county, South Korea, leading to strong protests in the region.
Earlier on Wednesday, six trailers carrying equipment arrived at the deployment area, meeting local residents who attempted to halt the convoy and clashed with police.
A demonstration also took place in central Seoul, demanding the system be dismantled.
A spokesperson for Moon Jae-in, the Democratic Party of Korea's presidential candidate, said the move by the US military to deploy THAAD was regrettable.
