China's Political Parties: Interview with a central committee member of Jiusan Society
[]
The Jiusan Society is one of China's non-Communist parties. It was established in 1946, and its name refers to the date China secured victory in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression, September 3rd, 1945. The party advocates democracy and science. It had more than 164,000 members across the nation at the end of last year, mostly high- and medium-level intellectuals in the fields of science, technology, education and medicine. CGTN's reporter Zheng Yibing spoke to Doctor Wang Huiyao, who's on the party's own central committee, and he praised General Secretary Xi Jinping's report at the opening session of the 19th National Congress of the CPC.

DR. WANG HUIYAO CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEMBER, JIUSAN SOCIETY "I think the 19th party's congress report is a significant one that ushers a new era for China to march on an objective. e.g. President Xi mentioned that by 2035, China is going to develop into mid-income but also well-round development and prosperous society. and by 2050, which is the middle of the century, China would probably be a leading country in the world. So this is a very clear objective that CPC set for the country and for the party, this shows China has a very long range planning, and have very long range of objective. This report has much emphasis on the international, global and common development of the mankind. Not only for China, but also for the world, that really get a lot of attention, and a lot of impact for the time to come."

ZHENG YIBING "Before the 19th CPC National Congress, General Secretary Xi Jinping collected opinions and suggestions from the democratic parties. Could you tell us what these parties, especially the Jiusan Society, proposed?"

DR. WANG HUIYAO CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEMBER, JIUSAN SOCIETY "CPC is really motivating all the parties, so that every major decision of CPC be consulted and discussed among the democratic parties. Jiusan is one of the major democratic parties, discussing and proposing and make a lot of changes into the parties. We have channels to impact policy-making and make better policy, and also all the government ministries and relevant departments."

ZHENG YIBING "In the next five years, how would the Jiusan Society further improve the democratic consultation system and its practice?"

DR. WANG HUIYAO CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEMBER, JIUSAN SOCIETY "The Jiusan Society will develop further. I see this time in Xi's report that he emphasized the consultation among the different parties, groups and societies, and even among the social organizations like the think-tanks. So it's quite relevant for Jiusan to have even wider base for the decision-making and political consultation. Jiusan is going to emphasize a lot the policy studies, and give efforts on this investigative and feasibility of study of this kind. In the next five years, China will have more development on the right track, with more democratic decision-making. I think the democratic parties in China should be strengthened and play more roles into the decision-making process, and to offer better policies and solutions and outcomes for the Chinese development in the long run."
