The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) is holding a massive military parade at Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang, marking the 105th birthday of the country’s founder Kim Il Sung, the grandfather of current leader Kim Jong Un.
Known as the “Day of the Sun,” Kim Il Sung's birthday has been designated as the most important holiday of the country.
Celebrations this year come amid soaring tensions on the Korean Peninsula, as Pyongyang and Washington have engaged in an escalating war of words over the DPRK’s nuclear and missile program.
