In Tokyo, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte have began talks on bilateral cooperation and key regional concerns.

The two leaders are expected to make deals on building infrastructure, counter-terrorism efforts and support for reconstruction and development in the city of Marawi after a devastating six-month battle against Islamist militants. Abe says he respects Duterte's efforts to fight terrorism in Marawi. This is the two leaders' third meeting. Duterte paid a state visit to Tokyo last year and Abe made a reciprocal visit to Manila in January.
