Villagers in Wentang in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality have been bathing naked in their local hot spring for decades, but a recent flood's destruction of a wall covering the site left their modesty unprotected. Many continued baring all, in full view of a nearby footpath, until local media reports about the case stirred controversy from the steamy waters.
Wentang village administrators told local media on Monday that they have arranged for a wall to be built “to conceal the disgrace.”
Locals say they discovered the natural hot spring themselves and separated it into several sections for male and female users.
Naked bathing divides opinion and causes sniggers on beaches and in spas around the world. It seems Wentang officials are determined not to be the butt of such jokes.
