Ninety people are feared drowned off the coast of Libya after a boat carrying migrants capsized. Meanwhile, at least five young Eritrean men are in critical condition in northern France, after shots were fired during a fight in Calais. Elena Casas reports from Paris.
Survivors of the Mediterranean shipwreck said the people on the boat were mostly Pakistani, along with some Libyans. That's unusual - the sea route from Libya to Italy has been used by migrants seeking to reach Europe for years, but they are mostly Sub-Saharans.
Only three survivors have been reported, from a boat carrying more than 90 - two swimming ashore to safety, the other picked up by a fishing boat.
The number of migrants crossing the Mediterranean has picked up in recent weeks - after a steep decline last year, put down to a controversial EU deal with the Libyan coastguard to intercept more vessels.
Meanwhile, here in France, four Eritrean teenagers - aged between 16 and 18 - needed emergency surgery in a Calais hospital after a fight broke out between Eritrean and Afghan migrants. The four had been shot - reportedly by an Afghan national.
At least a dozen more people needed treatment for injuries, some reportedly due to blows from iron bars. Around 100 Eritreans and 30 Afghans were caught up in the fight while they were queueing for food. And officials say a second fight broke out later.
Around 800 migrants, mostly young men, are estimated to be in Calais, living a homeless existence since the French government demolished the controversial Calais migrant camp back in 2016. Elena Casas, CGTN, Paris.
