Chinese FM urges SCO members to boost cooperation

Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) should promote cooperation in areas of politics, security, economy and people-to-people exchanges, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday at an SCO foreign ministers meeting in Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan.
Wang Yi held meetings respectively with his Kazakh, Tajik and Kyrgyz counterparts and exchanged views on further building the Silk Road Economic Belt and promoting bilateral cooperation with them.
The Chinese foreign minister said Kazakhstan has the country’s full support as both nations seek to deepen bilateral ties and improve cooperation in more areas. Both nations are part of the same community of countries with shared interests.
Wang said China will fully support Kazakhstan in its hosting of the SCO Astana Summit to be held in June and as the country takes the rotating chairmanship of the SCO following the summit.
Wang also met the Tajik foreign minister and said China wishes to promote bilateral cooperation in key areas such as connectivity and agriculture on the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic ties with Tajikistan.
During his meeting with his Kyrgyz counterpart, Wang said China is ready to work together with Kyrgyzstan to achieve common prosperity by building the Silk Road Economic Belt as the two countries have witnessed the stable and healthy development of their bilateral relations.
