World leaders condemn terror attack in London

World leaders have condemned Saturday's attack in London Bridge which left seven people dead and nearly 50 injured. 

United States

US President Donald Trump tweeted condolences and support, saying the US will be there to help out.

The US state department said that America "condemns the cowardly attacks targeting innocent civilians in London this evening".

Heather Nauert, spokesman for the department, said: "The United States stands ready to provide any assistance authorities in the United Kingdom may request.

"Our hearts are with the families and loved ones of the victims. We wish a full and quick recovery to those injured in the attacks.

"All Americans stand in solidarity with the people of the United Kingdom."

France

French President Emmanuel Macron said France "is more than ever at the side of the United Kingdom in response to this new tragedy."

French citizens are among the victims in the attack.

Australia

Australia's foreign minister Julie Bishop said: "We stand ready to support the British government as it responds to these attacks and our thoughts are with those injured and their families."

Malcolm Turnbull, the Prime Minister, added: "Our prayers and resolute solidarity are today as always with the people of Britain in the face of the shocking terrorist attacks in London."

Germany

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Germany was "resolutely at Britain's side".

"Today we are united across borders in horror and mourning, but also in determination," Merkel said in a statement.

"For Germany, I reiterate that in the fight against all forms of terrorism, we are resolutely at Britain's side."

Canada

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canadians "stand united" with London.

Russia

In a telegram to UK Prime Minister Theresa May, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the attack was shocking in its "cruelty and cynicism."

"Putin expresses his profound condolences for the British people and condemns the terrorist attack carried out hours ago in London," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian news agencies. 

"The Russian president expressed his certainty that the common response to what has happened should be an increase in combined efforts in the fight against the forces of terror around the world," the Kremlin said.

Pakistan

Pakistan expressed deepest condolences to the bereaved families at the loss of their beloved ones and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.

"We are deeply shocked and saddened by the horrific act of terrorism in London in which, reportedly, six innocent people have been killed and dozens have sustained injuries," the Pakistan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"The people and government of Pakistan strongly condemn the terrorist attack and sympathize with the people and the government of the United Kingdom. Terrorism is a global menace and hence a common challenge that needs to be tackled with collective effort and cooperation," the statement added.

UAE

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has also condemned the "terrorist crimes" and emphasized its firm and clear stance against extremism and terrorism in a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

"The terrorist crimes of London reaffirm the urgent need for concerted international efforts to counter extremism and terrorism in all its forms, and innocent civilians pay the price for these terrorist crimes," the ministry added.

South Korea

South Korea has also joined the chorus of condemnation against the attack.

"We pray for those killed in the terrorist attack and offer our deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the victims and the people of Britain," said Cho June-hyuck, spokesman for Seoul's foreign ministry, in a released statement.

"We strongly support Britain's efforts to root out terrorism and will continue to join such efforts by the international community under our firm belief that terrorist attacks are uncivilized, inhumane criminal acts that cannot be justified under any circumstances and must be eradicated," the spokesman added.
