During the Xi-Trump summit in early April, China and the US initiated four dialogue mechanisms, one of which was in cyber security. Chinese President Xi Jinping is calling on both sides to jointly build a peaceful, secure, open, cooperative and orderly cyberspace.
Speaking at a symposium in Beijing last year, President Xi said that the development of China's Internet should meet the expectations and demands of the Chinese people. He stressed what he termed the "correct outlook on cybersecurity", and called for the establishment of a system to protect information infrastructure in areas such as finance, energy, telecommunications and transportation.

President Xi also urged authorities to establish unified and effective mechanisms to report risks and share information, and emphasized the importance of core technology and talents, which he said were key to China's Internet development.
China and the US have held eight Internet forums since 2007 to discuss the reality and prospects of cooperation. At the 8th forum in 2015, China called for jointly maintaining cyberspace and combating cyber attacks, and promised to share more information with the US.
China has also held the annual World Internet Conference since 2014, and at the event in 2016, China stressed the importance of interconnectivity and shared governance. It stressed that maintaining cyber security is the common responsibility for the international community.
