A leading Serbian politician in northern Kosovo has been shot dead.Serbian media report that gunmen opened fire on Oliver Ivanovic, in front of the offices of his Citizens' Initiative Party. Ivanovic's lawyer confirmed his murder on Tuesday.
The 64-year-old was one of the key players in the Serb-dominated northern Kosovo, where tensions remain high a decade after it declared independence. A Kosovo court convicted Ivanovic of war crimes during the 1998-1999 war. That verdict was overturned and a retrial is underway.
