To China now, where heavy snowfall which began Wednesday, is continuing to disrupt transportation networks, and the lives of many. Here's a closer look at the extreme winter weather.
In central China's Hubei province, blizzards have killed one person and affected around 500-thousand people. The snow has forced the relocation of nearly 700 people, damaged more than 800 houses and about 30-thousand hectares of crops. The Cities of Xiangyang and Suizhousaw a record 30 centimeters of snowfall on Friday alone.
In neighboring Anhui province, the worst snowstorms in 10 years have left 13 people dead, causing a direct economic loss of 190 million US dollars. 51 scenic spots in Anhui's 9 cities were shut down due to safety concerns.
In Jincheng City of north China's Shanxi Province, snowfall reached 14.5 millimeters in the downtown area on Saturday night, blocking some of the city's main roads. To ensure safety, multiple highways inside the city remain closed.
In Wangcang county, in southwest China's Sichuan province, heavy snow caused power outages in the mountainous region. The local power department has dispatched teams to repair electricity lines.
