We focus on martial arts now, as the 20th World Taekwondo Championships are now underway after an opening ceremony in the capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. More than 200 competitors from 70 countries descending on Pyongyang for the event.
Accompanied by a military band and greeted by cheering fans, the athletes and coaches marched through the streets towards Pyongyang's Taekwondo Hall for the opening ceremony. Delegations from 69 countries and DPRK-led International Taekwondo Federation officials attended the event, which was highlighted by Taekwondo demonstration. This is the third time the DPRK capital hosts the tournament. The ITF is headquartered in the DPRK and is a separate organization to World Taekwondo, which is headquartered in South Korea. A South Korea-led demonstration team, had been considering coming to Pyongyang for this event which will run until Thursday, but according to Seoul's Unification Ministry the trip never materialized.
