On Tuesday, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull met with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Canberra.
This year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Australia. In the meeting, Turnbull sought to step up the comprehensive strategic partnership between Beijing and Canberra.
Previously, Wang, China's top diplomat, attended the fourth China-Australia Foreign and Strategic Dialogue with his Australian counterpart, Julie Bishop.
After the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement took effect more than a year ago, China has become Australia’s number one trading partner both in terms of imports and exports.
Both sides have emphasized free trade, especially in the face of rising protectionism.
