A bus driver’s duty is to transport passengers safely from one stop to another. However, the driver on Route 901 in the eastern Chinese city of Qingdao expanded his jurisdiction on Monday when he gave a physically challenged elderly man a piggyback on and off the bus.
Photos of Wang Shaobo carrying the senior have created a sensation since being posted in Chinese social media on Wednesday. Wu told local media, “I just did what I am obliged to do. I feel proud to help others.”

Wu noticed the man faltering over to the bus when he pulled up to a stop on Monday morning, and he instantly got off to help. Wu settled his passenger on a priority seat to make it more convenient to alight.

“It had rained just before and the ground was wet. The senior would have been in trouble if he had fallen over,” Wu said, according to the Qi Lu Evening News.

Wu has reportedly been a driver on Route 901 for six years and is popular with passengers. The bus company said that any passenger in need can request help from its drivers, who should be happy to oblige.
