Typhoon Mawar: Forecast to make landfall in Guangdong Province by Sunday
[]
China's National Meteorological Center has forecast that Typhoon Mawar will hit Guangdong Province by Sunday, with winds of up to 38 meters per second expected. The tropical cyclone will be the 16th typhoon to hit China so far this year. Both Guangdong and neighboring Fujian province have been warned of strong winds and rainstorms beginning on Saturday. Coastal areas may see winds of up to 100 kilometers per hour. Guangdong's provincial flood prevention headquarters on Saturday activated a disaster alert and asked all fishing boats to remain in the docks. Working groups in Fujian province have also been sent to coastal areas to assist fishermen returning to shore and guide relief efforts. Mawar is the third typhoon to hit province in the last two weeks.
