Now to rescue work on the oil tanker Sanchi. Nearly a week has passed since the Panamanian ship collided with a Hong Kong freighter in the East China Sea.
The Chinese Maritime Search and Rescue Center has assigned two more Chinese vessels in a new round of effort to put out the big fire on board the Sanchi. Rescue workers are struggling due to large oil fires that produce heavy smoke and toxic gas. Bad weather has also made operations more difficult. Experts say the tanker may explode or sink if the fire continues.
