UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says the Belt and Road Initiative is making economic globalization more balanced, inclusive and harmonious.
During a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on Saturday, Guterres said the initiative is in line with the UN 20-30 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
He said by hosting the Belt and Road Forum, China has shown that it remains a strong advocate for openness and multilateralism. In response, Wang Yi said China is willing to integrate the initiative with UN projects.
Wang also met with other UN senior officials on Saturday, including UN Alliance of Civilization chief Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser and the President of the UN General Assembly Peter Thomson. Abdulaziz Al-Nasser told the Chinese foreign minister that the Belt and Road Initiative is good for economic development and encourages cultural exchange.
Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto, also in Beijing on Saturday, told Wang Yi that Hungary firmly supports China's Belt and Road Initiative and will continue to work for a healthy China-Europe relationship.
In a meeting with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi, Wang said China wants to make its Maritime Silk Road initiative work with Indonesia's strategy to become a global ocean pivot.
The Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation will be held in Beijing on May 14 and 15.
