Pakistan's government has held an emergency security meeting over the US president's recent statement against Islamabad. Trump had accused Pakistan of providing safe haven to terrorists. Pakistan hit back swiftly, saying that Trump has no background knowledge of the war in Afghanistan.
IMRAN KHAN PAKISTANI POLITICIAN "There were 150,000 NATO soldiers in Afghanistan at the same time; and there were more than 200,000 Afghan soldiers also. Yet Trump is trying to say that they could not win the war in 16 years because a few thousand people from Pakistan were being sent to combat them. No one who knows the facts is going to believe this."
In his first tweet of 2018, Trump slammed Pakistan, saying the country has given the US nothing but lies and deceit in fighting terrorism. Washington also announced that it would continue to withhold 255 million US dollars in military aid to Islamabad. The Pakistani government has summoned US Ambassador David Hale over Trump's words, but has not yet given a formal response. The country's Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif tweeted that Pakistan would respond soon to Trump and, in his words, will let the world know the truth.
