A group of activists in Nigeria is seeking to lower the constitutional age requirement for candidates contesting elections.

Currently, presidential hopefuls in the West African nation need to be at least 40 years old.

Some of the country’s young people have now come together to seek chances into races for the presidency.

The youth have begun a campaign dubbed Not Too Young To Run, seeking to see more youths involved in politics.

In Nigeria, young people are generally disadvantaged in politics, as most people believe in the notion of wisdom coming with age. 

Using techno-savvy methods such as digital and social media campaigns, the young politicians believe they will convince the country’s lawmakers to pass a bill lowering that age requirement.

If they are successful, Nigeria may well be on its way to having a younger president in the future.
