Spring Festival Travel Rush: World's largest annual human migration goes smart
[]
The Spring Festival travel rush is now in full swing, as millions of people try to make it home in time for the lunar new year. Friday alone saw some 8.5 million rail trips.
The travel rush is not called the world's largest human migration for no reason. These high-speed trains in-wait in the Chinese capital says it all. But the journey home has gotten easier over the years -- first by the high-speed rail and now by smart technologies. Transport hubs across the country, such as this train station in Nanjing, are adopting facial recognition technology to make the admission process faster and more secure. And you don't have to look for your flight gates on these large boards. In Yinchuan airport in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, passengers can opt to have their faces scanned by a camera and their flight information, such as their check-in gate, will display on a smaller screen.
